Citrix XenServer 6.5 Installation
XenServer is Citrix's own hypervisor used for running virtual machines for server infrastructure, VDI, terminal server environments, etc. The following instructions show how to install XenServer 6.5 on physical hardware.
Place the Citrix XenServer 6.5 media in the CD-ROM drive and power on the server.
Press Enter at the boot: prompt to continue.
Select the keyboard layout from the list and select OK.
Select OK.
Select Accept EULA.
You will get the above message, if hardware virtualization support has not been enabled in the BIOS. You can continue with the installation and enable it after the installation; select OK.
Select the local storage to be used for storing virtual machines, if you intend to store them on local storage. Select Enable thin provisioning (Optimized storage for XenDesktop) to reduce the disk space required by virtual desktops stored on local storage. If all virtual machines are to be stored on NFS, Fibre Channel and/or iSCSI SAN's you can leave these options deselected; select OK.
XenServer can be installed using Local media (CD-ROM), HTTP or FTP or NFS (web server, FTP or NFS server containing the contents of the CD-ROM); select OK.
If there are Supplemental Packs to be installed along with XenServer, select Yes, otherwise select No.
If the XenServer media has been recently downloaded it is a good idea to verify the media before continuing with the installation. Select Verify installation source or select Skip verification and select OK to continue.
Choosing the Verify installation source will produce the above message, select OK to continue.
Enter a password for the root account (UNIX equivalent of the Windows local administrator account) and select OK.
By default XenServer will try to get its IP address from DHCP to give it a static IP select Static configuration and enter the IP Address, Subnet mask and Gateway; select OK.
Enter the Hostname to be used by the XenServer host, the IP addresses for the DNS servers in DNS Configuration and select OK.
Select the time zone geogrphical area from the list and select OK.
Select the city or area closest to the XenServer's location from the list and select OK.
To automatically update the time on the XenServer select Using NTP or Manual time entry to manually update the time on the server; select OK.
Enter the NTP server IP addresses and/or FQDN, which can be the Windows domain controllers or a public NTP server like pool.ntp.org; select OK.
Select Install XenServer.
Once XenServer is installed select OK to reboot the server.
XenServer should start booting up.
Once XenServer has successfully booted up you will see the above screen.
